The two allegorical novels, The Woman Warrior by Chinese American woman writer Maxine Hong Kingston and Waiting for the Barbarians by South African writer, winner of Nobel Prize in literature J. M. Coetzee, each has a mysterious no name woman as its protagonist, i.e. the narrator's aunt in the former and the barbarian girl in the latter. After a comparative reading, this paper finds that the two women, with no name, thus no identity, no status, are victims of patriarchal and tyrannical systems. However, among their ill fate and silence, they claim their existence by articulating strong rebellious voices against hegemony and male chauvinism in their feminist delicate ways.
