摘　　要：作为中国历史上首个专司教育的中央行政机构,学部的设立对于普及新式教育和推进教育转型意义重大。与此同时,学部不仅组织编译了大量中小学堂教学用书,而且在兼顾学术与政治的前提下,组织开展了编译书籍的审查工作,促进了晚清翻译事业的发展。学部编译书籍有其明确的指导思想,其对编译书籍的审查程序严格。虽然学部的书籍编译与审查存在不足,但它是近代中国翻译事业的重要组成部分,客观上促进了西学的广泛传播。As the first central administration body in charge of education in history,the establishment of the Board of Education was significant in popularizing new education and promoting educational transformation. Meanwhile,the Board of Education not only organized compilation and translation of many primary and secondary school textbooks,but launched censorship of those works out of academic and political considerations,thus playing a very important role in advancing the translation cause of the late Qing Dynasty. The Board of Education had its clear guidelines in compiling and translating textbooks,and adhered to strict procedures in its censorship.Although the work of the Board of Education left much to be desired,it indeed made important contribution to the modern Chinese translation cause,and facilitated the dissemination of western knowledge in China during that period.
