摘　　要：当代英国小说家、评论家A.S.拜厄特在文集《论历史与故事》中以作家兼学者的视角,从艺术审美与文学传承的层面为解读当代英国小说自1960年代以来历史主题的转向提供了一条颇为独特的思考进路。她用内涵丰富的"腹语术"取代了后现代文学批评中"戏仿"和"拼贴"的概念,借以描绘当代小说家与文学历史传承之间的微妙关系,凸显出历史与文学经典之于当代作家幽灵般的召唤力。"腹语术"式的历史书写对拜厄特、萨拉·沃特斯、帕特·巴克等当代英国作家写作风格的隐喻,为历史小说的未来勾勒出一条可行的道路。In her essay collection On Histories and Stories（2000）, A.S. Byatt gives an original account of the rise of the English historical novel since the 1960 s in terms of aesthetics and literary heritage. She replaces parody and pastiche—concepts frequently applied in postmodern literary criticism— with the layered notion of ＂ventriloquism＂ to describe the subtle interactions between contemporary writers and literary traditions as well as historical past whose ghostly hauntings, as manifested in the ventriloquist resurrection of history in works of Byatt, Sarah Waters, Pat Barker and others, reveal a feasible path for the future of the historical novel.
