摘　　要：《麦田里的守望者》是美国作家J·D·塞林格发表于1951年的长篇小说,当时的美国刚刚赢得二战的胜利,正处在工业文明高速发展时期,对物质享受过度的追求导致人们情感上的淡漠和精神上的空虚,物质化的理想与信仰丧失纯粹性,唯利是图的虚伪作风大行其道,塞林格在小说中对此进行深刻的批判。The Catcher in the Rye,a novel by J. D. Salinger,was published in 1951,when the USA experienced a rapid industrial development after a triumph in the Second World War. The flourishing economy resulted in people＇s excessive pursuits of material comforts,which in turn led to their coldness and indifference for emotions and emptiness of spiritual life. There was no pure ideal and beliefs due to the effects of materialism any more among people but seeking only one＇s own profits. All these social phenomena are criticized severely by Salinger in his works.
