摘 要:本文通过语境选择任务探讨了中国英语学习者对wh-双子句中句首wh-词的语域的解读是否存在不对称性,英语水平和wh-词的语法功能是否会影响他们对句首wh-词语域的解读。结果表明他们在理解句首wh-词时都倾向于主句语域,表现出了主句语域对从句语域的不对称现象。另外,句首wh-词语法功能仅在单语域的单元wh-双子句中具有主效应,不会改变学习者在双语域wh-双子句中选择主句语域的倾向性。研究结果说明,受试对句首wh-词语域解读的倾向性符合"距离依存理论"的解释。This article investigates the asymmetry in the scope interpretation of bi-clausal wh-questionswith two different scopes in English as a second language.Two groups of Chinese English learners,representing the elementary level and the advanced level respectively,were asked to take a truth value judgment test in the form of contextual multiple-choice questions adapted from Hawkins and Hattori(2006).The results of the test show that Chinese learners,regardless of their English proficiency,exhibit a strong preference to the main scope interpretation for all types of wh-questions.This preference is not affected by the grammatical function of the initial wh-words,which exhibits limited influence on learners' interpretation of the single-scope bi-clausal wh-questions with only one wh-word.The findings can be accounted for within the framework of the Distance-Based Theory.
