Objective To explore the predictive value of red blood cell distribution width( RDW) in patients with cryptogenic stroke( CS). Methods A total of 71 CS patients and 60 healthy controls were collected as the patients group and the control group respectively from Qilinshan Sanatorium from January 2013 to December 2015. Demographic and physical diseases data were collected for tests of routine blood( including RDW),glucose,lipids,iron,C- reactive protein( CRP),fibrinogen( FIB),etc. Results Proportion of obese,BMI,RDW,RDW≥14%,WBC and CRP were higher in CS patients than in the controls, with the differences statistically significant( P 〈 0. 05). There was no statistical significance on the difference in other markers between the 2 groups( P 〉0. 05); RDW had a high sensitivity( 69. 01%) in the diagnosis of CS according to the ROC curve.Based on logistic regression analysis,RDW≥14. 58% was the only predictor independently associated with cryptogenic stroke( OR = 1. 726,P 〈 0. 05). Conclusion RDW may play a role in predicting cryptogenic stroke independently.
