摘　　要：本文广泛收集和整理了英语世界的胡适研究成果,仔细阅读、推敲其中有代表性的著作,细致总结和概括出英语世界胡适研究成果的基本情况,划分和厘定了英语世界胡适研究史的不同发展阶段,以求在一个宏大的框架下更好地把握英语世界胡适研究的历史、现状及其走向。笔者发现自20世纪二三十年代起,英语世界就出现了零星的胡适传记和研究著作。五六十年代以来,与胡适相关的研究开始大量涌现:英语世界的研究者或在有关中国文学、哲学、史学、教育、外交、宗教等方面的著作中列专章,或者以专著、学术论文的形式对胡适进行研究,其中值得注意的是以胡适为专题的20多部博、硕士论文和专著。The basis of the present research lies in the collection and gross of related materials with scrutiny on the most representative ones in order to form the general picture of English studies on Hu Shih, on the basis of which the line of the his- torical development of studies on Hu Shih in the English - speaking world is drawn with accurate division of different phases in the long process till now, thus arriving at a better understanding towards the history, the present state and the future of studies on Hu Shih in the English - speaking world. There appeared English biographies and research on Hu Shih since the 1920s and the 1930s. The 1950s and the 1960s witnessed the emergence of a great number of works focusing on him. Research conducted on him is in the studies about literature, philosophy, history, education, diplomacy and religion. With Hu Shih as the center of study,twenty dissertations, theses and monographs are of special importance and deserve our attention.
