Objective:To assess the efficacy of bladder electro-acupuncture in treatment of neurogenic urinary retention in patients with spinal cord injury. Methods: 72 patients with spinal cord injury and urinary retention were divided into the trial group(42 patients) and the control group(30 patients) according to their own intention. Conventional treatment was equally given to the two groups, while the trail group also received bladder electro-acupuncture. Then we observed the improvement of urinary retention before and after treatment and evaluated patients' life quality in both groups. Results: The residual urine were significantly decreased in both groups after treatment(P〈0.05), and the amount of residual urine in the trail group was lower than the control group(P〈0.05). The total effective rate of the trail group and the control group were 95.2% and 66.7% respectively with obvious difference(P〈0.01). At the same time, the life quality of the trail group was obvious better than the control group after treatment with significant difference(P〈0.01). Conclusion: The bladder electro-acupuncture could effectively promote the function of the bladder and reduce the occurrence of urinary retention in patients with spinal cord lesions.
