Objective To investigate the clinical significance of the change of red cell distribution width (RDW) in children acute lymphoblastic leukemia. Method 70 cases of normal control group and 68 cases of acute lymphoblastic leukemia group. This research used automatic blood cell analyzer to detect the peripheral red cell distribution width and other parameters of red blood cell. Results Red cell distribution width (RDW) of normal control group was 12. 86 ± 0. 77, and acute lymphoblastic leukemia before chemotherapy group was 17. 32 ± 2. 08, compared with the normal control group values were significant difference (P 〈 0. 05 ) ; RDW of acute lymphoblastic leukemia by the planning chemotherapy achieves complete remission was 14. 38 ± 1.92, compared with acute lymphoblastie leukemia before chemotherapy group values were significant difference ( P 〈 0. 05). Conclusion Abnormal changes of quality and quantity of red cells in children acute lymphocytic leukemia. And RDW value significantly improved in children acute lymphocytic leukemia achieves complete remission after chemotherapy. RDW value use to determine whether the remission of acute lymphoblastic leukemia after chemotherapy has a certain reference value.
