解读《喜福会》中的中国母亲不同的文化价值观

摘　　要：本文从三个方面分析了小说《喜福会》中所展现的中国母亲在女儿面前的"他者"形象,中国母亲深受孔孟文化的影响,要求女儿们顺从自己的意志安排,这使崇尚个人主义的女儿们反感;中国母亲们说话方式迂回曲折,在女儿们眼里令人费解;母亲们说着半是汉语半是洋泾浜式的英语也让女儿们有一种不可同化的感觉。This paper makes an attempt to analyze the Chinese mothers＇communication in front of their Ameri- can - born daughters. Under Confucianism, the Chinese mothers often see their American daughters as subordinates and expect absolute authority over them. And their style of communication is evasive enough to be misled. In addi- tion, they all speak their Chinese dialects and a kind of broken English. All of these mark them as the inassimilable Other in the eyes of their American - born daughters.
