文化之交融,译者之创作——从《红楼梦》英译看中西文化差异对翻译的影响

摘　　要：翻译是语言再创造的过程也是文化传播的一种方式。文化的异质性势必会造成翻译活动的不同。本文以《红楼梦》的杨霍译文为载体,比较分析二者在其翻译中所采用的翻译策略和方法,力求从生态文化,宗教文化,文化意象以及译者不同的文化背景多个角度探讨中西文化差异对翻译的影响。Translation is the process of language re - creation as well as a way of cultural transmission. Cultural heterogeneity is bound to result in different translation activities. In this paper, with the English versions of A Dream of Red Mansions by Yang Xianyi and The Story of the Stone by Hawkes, the translation strategies and methods adopted by the two translators are com- pared and analyzed to discuss the effects of Sino - western cultural differences on translation from different perspectives of eco- logical culture, religious culture, cultural image and translator＇s cultural background.
