英汉民族的人格符号——从“gentleman”和“君子”谈起

摘　　要：洪堡特认为,一种语言的结构和特性能反映出该语言使用者的内在本质和对世界的认知状况;并且,不同的语言在一定程度和方式上导致语言使用者不同的思维和行为,语言的意义能表征出语言使用者的思维模式。换言之,一种语言就是一种概念思维系统。本文在洪堡特语言理论框架中,以分析"gentleman"和"君子"的内涵为基点,尝试探讨"gentleman"和"君子"两个文化符号所代表的不同人格特征。Wilhelm von Humboldt believes, the character and structure of a language express the inner life and knowledge of its speakers, and languages must differ from one another in the same way and to the same degree as those who use them. The meaning of a language embodies the thought of a community. In other words, a language is a conceptual system. In the framework of Wilhelm yon Humboldt＇s theory, this paper, from the perspective of the connotation of the two terms： gentleman and junzi, attempts to explore the different national personalities.
