摘　　要：F.L.诺伊曼是谁呢?他是一个理论家还是一个实践家?抑或一个"自由飘浮的知识分子"?倘若作为理论家,他是政治学家、历史学家、社会学家甚或哲学家?倘若作为实践家,他是工人运动政治家还是美国政府公务员?这是德国政治学家A.苏尔纳向人们(也是向自己)提出的问题。通过对诺伊曼"劳动法与经济民主"时期、"马克思主义的十年""冷战中的德国民主"的考察,A.苏尔纳不仅讨论了作为传记重构对象的诺伊曼,而且分析了作为批判的社会理论的诺伊曼政治学,并塑造了诺伊曼作为批判的知识分子之社会科学家形象,从而印证了马尔库塞的说法,即在"知识分子"一词最为自豪的意义上,诺伊曼是一个知识分子;在非常罕见的意义上,诺伊曼是一个"政治学者"。作为法兰克福学派第一代重要代表人物之一,诺伊曼被视为社会研究所之"外围人员";但作为当代最著名的政治学家、法学家之一,诺伊曼被视为德国现代政治学奠基人之一。Who is F. L. Neumann? Is he a theorist or an activist or a 'free-floating intellectual'?Is he a political scientist,a sociologist or a philosopher,if he is a theorist? Is he a politician in labor movement or an American government official,if he is an activist? These were the questions German political scientist A.Sllner proposd to people(and himself). Sllner not only treated Neumann as the reinventing subject of biography,but also analyzed his political theory as Critical Social Theory. Then Sllner shaped Neumann in the image of social scientist as critical intellectual,which confirmed Marcuse's account,that is,Neumann was an intellectual in the proudest meaning of 'intellectual'; and he was a 'political scientist'in the unusual sense of 'intellectual'. As one of the representatives of the first generation of Frankfurt School,Neumann is considered on the edge of Institute for Social Research. But as one of the most prominent modern political scientists and jurists,he is regarded as one of the founders of German modern politics.
