摘　　要：埃伦·吉尔克里斯特在《天使报喜》中改写了福克纳小说的女性人物,将南方骑士文化与淑女风范融合起来,塑造出一个敢于冒险、追求自由的女骑士形象。她的作品既突出了与福克纳的《喧哗与骚动》及《野棕榈》的互文性,又从历史意识、宗教用典和女性视角上再现了不一样的南方社会与历史。女主角阿曼达既是南方文化的继承者,又在很大程度上破除了传统道德的禁锢,成为战后南方女性文学中一个具有里程碑意义的人物形象。Ellen Gilchrist, in her debut novel The Annunciation, rewrites William Faulkner＇ s female protag- onists by integrating Southern chivalry with ladyhood for a creation of female cavalier in pursuit of adven- ture and freedom. Her novel, based on a strong intertextuality with Faulkner＇ s The Sound and the Fury and The Wild Palms, portraits a new South in terms of historical consciousness, biblical allusions and a fe- male perspective. Her protagonist Amanda McCamey, while inheriting the essence of Southern culture, protests against traditional fetters and thus cultivates herself as a character of great importance in postwar Southern women literature.
