摘　　要：美国高等教育问责的发生过程是学术研究中的薄弱环节。文章从时间社会学的理论视角出发,对美国高等教育问责得以产生的制度基础、关键时段与社会脉络进行历史梳理,并在此基础上对问责发生的机理进行学理分析。从美国经验的考察可以得出,理解大学问责及其与自主的相互关系应当考虑到时间约束的维度。The generating process of accountability in American higher education is the weak link in academic research. From the perspective of the sociology of time, this paper makes a historical review to sort out the institutional foundation, critical period and so- cial context of the emergence of higher education accountability in the United States. On the basis of it, the paper discusses the theoret- ical analysis for the generating mechanism of accountability. The study from the experience of the United States shows that to under- stand higher education accountability and its relation to university autonomy is necessary to take the dimension of time constraint, into account.
