摘　　要：英国中产阶级产生于传统向现代的转型时期,其价值取向融合了上层贵族和下层平民的美德,通过文学作品得以强化和传播。绅士概念的变化揭示了中产阶级对于身份认同的诉求,也展示出文学话语对主流意识形态的形塑作用;郊区住宅的兴起体现了中产阶级对城市问题的担忧,他们试图借助空间隔离摆脱城市贫民的不良影响,维持体面生活。The English middle class emerges in the transitional period when the society turns from the traditional society into a modern one.It takes its moral values from both the upper noble class and common people of the lower class,which get consolidated and broadcast through literary works.The change in regard to the concept of the gentleman manifests the urgent demand for noble identification,in which literary discourse helps to fashion the mainstream ideology.
