摘　　要：波及华北五省、牵连上千万民众的丁戊奇荒,其最初的发难点位于青州府,而英国浸礼会传教士李提摩太藉助近代传播媒介对灾荒的报道和募捐将青州府旱灾的消息发散至全国乃至西方社会,并掀起了近代第一次中外共同参与的救荒行动。尽管带着善意而来,但拥有西方强权标签的李提摩太却成为青州地方官和江南士绅共同的排斥对象,李提摩太最终被迫放弃了与两者合作救荒的计划,从而宣告了英国浸礼会以慈善形式第一次参与青州公共事务尝试的失败,而其宣教事业也并未在救荒中出现预期的发展。另外,江南士绅利用上层政治力量强迫青州绅富归还土地的赎田案对当地绅富的权威提出挑战,但因江南士绅无法提供足够的赎田资金而致使赎田案沦落为束之高阁的公告文本,江南士绅也最终遗憾离开。Qingzhou was the origin of the severe famine in 1877 and 1878 that spread in five provinces in North China, involving thousands of people.
