Many "post-" terms, especially "postmodernism", are being questioned and subverted, which threatens the existence of "postmemory" proposed by Marianne Hirsch. "Postmemory" describes the "memory" of Holocaust survivors' children, emphasizing the transmission and continuation of traumatic effects from one generation to the next. By taking as examples the documentary narratives and the novel Nightfather by Holocaust survivors' children, this article analyzes the relationship between memory and postmemory, shows the failure of discursive and emotional communication between survivors, whether silent or talkative, and their children, and questions the inter-generational transmission of trauma, thus denies the validity of postmemory.
