Japanese films in the North-American market have suffered stagnation and repetitive consumption since the 1980s.Due to adverse national geographical environments and limited space of existence, the theme of tribulation represents the nation's primitive image and has magnified under the stimulus of the modern competition. The traditional Japanese culture expounded in the current psychological and spiritual illustration has demonstrated great strength in consoling the modern souls suffering sense of insecurity and anxiety, and made the texts distinctive with Eastern aesthetics in form, but on the other hand, weaknesses have also been exposed such as ego-centricity,instinctual anti-foreign sentiments and biased group awareness, particularly in the case of war films. In the tribulation stories in Japanese films, ambiguous ethical concepts like endurance, allegiance, lofty death and self-sacrifice are aroused, but the motives are concealed behind individual moralities and affections which seem irrelevant to politics. It is safe to say that due to the over projection of the theme of tribulation in Japanese films, the traditional morality has concealed the ideological aspect of war motives, causing totally different understandings at home and abroad.
