摘　　要：如果把英语短文写作比做"盖房子",那么段落写作就是完成房子中各个"房间"(rooms)的搭建工作。房间的大小和结构是由它在整座房子中的功能、作用决定的。同样,段落的长短和结构是由它在整篇文章中的功能、作用决定的。然而,无论什么房间都是由四壁和屋顶组成的一个有机整体,因此无论什么段落都是由主题句和发展句(有时还要有结论句)组成的有机整体。If English essay writing is compared as＂house building＂,then paragraph writing is to complete the building work of＂rooms＂in the house.The room size and structure are determined by the function and effect of the room in the entire house.Similarly,the paragraph length and structure are determined by the function and role of the paragraph in the entire essay.However,a room is an organic integrity composed of four walls and roof,and similarly,aparagraph is also an organic integrity composed of topic sentence and extensive sentences（conclusion sentence is included sometimes）.
