Liquid hydrocarbon fuels offer exceptionally high energy densities and are convenient for the transportation sectors, especially for aviation, without changes in the current global infrastructure. Sustainable production of liquid hydrocarbon fuels can be realized with the help of solar technologies. However, their production from H2O and CO2 using solely solar energy input has remained a grand challenge.
