摘　　要：西南联大外文系在抗战八年期间为我国培养了一大批学贯中西的人才,可谓教育史上的奇迹。外文系办学的成功与其教授群体的关系十分密切,西南联大外文系集中了北京大学、清华大学、南开大学的精英,他们有着深厚的学术功底、独立的学术追求以及豁达的生活态度。吴宓、叶公超、温德、燕卜荪为外文系教授的典型代表,因此,希望通过对他们的研究来展示知识分子为维护战时高等教育延续性所表现出的精神面貌与情怀。Foreign Languages and literature Department of National Southwest Associated University cultivated many learned talents knowing the east and the west during the eight years of anti - Japanese war, which is called a miracle in education history. The success of the department mainly relies on its professor group. Foreign Languages and literature Department of National Southwest Associated University assimilated renowned professors from Peking university, Tsinghua university and Nanking University. These professors have the characteristics of a profound academic background, independent pursuit of academic research and a positive attitude of life. Wu Mi, Ye Gongchao, Robert Winter and William Empson are main representatives of the Professor group in foreign languages and literature Department. Therefore, the purpose of the study could reveal the intellectuals ＇ mental outlooks and feelings to maintain the continuality of higher education in the war time.
