An Empirical Study of the Predictability of Depth of Vocabulary Knowledge and Reading Ability on Critical Reading

摘  要:本次实验测试了59名英语专业四年级学生的词汇量和词汇深度知识,并且收集整理了他们2015年英语专业四级考试综合成绩,英语专业八级阅读模拟考试以及批判性阅读成绩的相关数据。运用spss22.0对各项数据进行多元回归分析,结果表明词汇深度测试和英语专业八级阅读成绩能有效预测批判性阅读能力,词汇量、英语专业四级语言综合水平和接受性词汇水平对于批判性阅读能力不具有预测能力。通过对受试的语境推词策略调查问卷分析和采用文本指难针工具对不同阅读的文本难度做分析,最终探讨两个变量词汇深度和英语专业八级阅读为何对思辨性阅读具有显著的解释力。Fifty nine fourth-year English majors participate in this study. Their performances in level testwhichare aiming to test breath of vocabulary knowledge, depth of vocabulary knowledge, ing are collected as original data. After the Pearson correlation and linear regression analysis, it is found that thebreath of vocabulary knowledgefails to predict test-takers’ critical reading ability whiledepth of vocabulary knowledge , TEM 8 reading and critical reading are significantly and positively correlated with one another. Adopting questionnaire to analyze students’ strategies meaning in context and Text Difficulty Level Calculating Tool developed by Language Data website, we tr to discuss the reasons whycriticalreading ability level can be explained by depth of vocabulary knowledge and TEM 8 reading.
