Objective To investigate the features and pattern of otorhinolaryngology diseases among the ship crew during escort in the Gulf of Aden,so as to provide evidence for better medical support in future escort missions. Methods Retrospective analysis was made on the medical records of clinical and emergency medical care by the medical post aboard a certain escort ship during the escort mission in the Gulf of Aden. The distribution features and pattern of otorhinolaryngology diseases among the ship crew were summarized. Results Diagnoses of 167 case-times were included in the statistical analysis. The top 5 diseases in the disease spectrum were chronic pharyngitis, acute upper respiratory tract infection, acute suppurative tonsillitis, allergic rhinitis, acute otitis externa, which accounted for 86.83% of the total cases.Other otorhinolaryngology diseases were of sporadic nature. Conclusion The incidence otorhinolaryngology diseases among the ship crew during escort might be closely associated with the ship environment, the daily life activities during prolonged deployment, fitness of individuals and personal experience of prolonged deployment at sea.At the same time, the manning of medical personnel and medical supplies should conform to the distribution pattern of diseases during escort.
