The effect of ethanol volume ratio in alcohol-water pretreatment solution on the dissolution and degradation of xylan in moso bamboo was studied. Under certain pretreatment temperature and time, the initial p H of the pretreatment solution decreased with the increase in ethanol volume ratio, and the solid substrate yield increased. The xylan removal and furfural recovery were decreased with the increase in ethanol volume ratio. At185℃ for 120 min,the potential dissolution degree of xylan were 81. 05%,67. 30%,54. 85%,36. 00%,16. 21% and 6. 04% when ethanol volume ratio in alcohol-water pretreatment solution were 0%,20%,40%,60%,80% and 98%,respectively. There is a good linear relationship between the potential dissolution degree of xylan and ethanol volume ratio. Besides, the xylan removal from the pretreatment medium with different ethanol volume ratio has a uniform exponential function relationship with their initial p H,proving that the initial p H value of the pretreatment solution is the decisive factor affecting the xylan removal.
