Numerous microbes with complicated compositions, wide varieties and powerful functions live in human gastrointestinal tract and constitute a gut microecological system along with their host. Disorder of gut microecology is closely associated to diseases. Fecal microbiota transplantation is a burgeoning clinical technique to durably regulate gut microecology dysbiosis, and attracts widespread attention for its remarkable efficacy. It is inevitable for Chinese materia medica to interact with gut microbiota when they go through the gastrointestinal tract. This paper reviewed current advances in the effect of gut microecology on diseases and interactions between gut microecology and Chinese materia medica including correlation between gut microecology disorder and diseases, regulation on gut microecology dysbiosis by fecal microbiota transplantation, effect of gut microbes on Chinese materia medica, and adjustment of Chinese materia medica to gut microecology. We hope to provide reference for relevant research.
