摘　　要：英国当代现实主义文学在继承文学传统的同时,关注虚构的可能性与语言生产性。文学领域内语言意识的强调使当代现实主义文学发生转向,并提出核心问题。小说家、批评家A.S.拜厄特在小说理论与创作实践中对这一转向表现出强烈关注,她在写实的同时承认虚构,认为写实与实验是互依共生的关系,并称自己的创作为"自觉现实主义"。拜厄特深怀现实主义作家的责任感,在《巴别塔》中进行形式实验的同时,着力展现60年代英国的知识与道德风貌。她将语言意识与智性书写相结合,令其"自觉现实主义"不仅为心灵提供思考的空间,也为身体提供感知的天地。While inheriting a literary tradition, contemporary British realist literature focuses its attention on the possibility of fictionality and the productivity of language. This language consciousness caused a shift in post-war British fiction, and proposed a central question to realism. A. S. Byatt, a contemporary novelist and critic, has an acute awareness of the linguistic turn in modern realism. She acknowledges an interdependent relationship between realism and experimentation, and regards her own writing as ＂self-conscious realism.＂ In Babel Tower, Byatt combines a formal experimentation with a depiction of the moral and intellectual milieu in the 1960s＇ Britain. Her ＂self-conscious realism＂ produces space for thinking minds as well as feeling bodies.
