摘 要:傅兰雅"时新小说"征文(1895)是近代文学史上的著名公案。傅氏征得的作品在失踪百年后重被发现。然而参赛作者生平大多无考。本文讨论的是参赛者江贵恩及其作品《时新小说》和《鬼怨》。全文分三个部分:一是据现有材料,推断出江贵恩生平。二是讨论其参赛作品《时新小说》的特色。三是讨论其后期作品《鬼怨》。《时新小说》的风格无疑是满足了傅兰雅期待的"基督教腔调"。《鬼怨》说教色彩颇浓,但文学色彩也不弱。傅兰雅希望培养出新一代的写作者和教会的本土接班人,江贵恩后来的发展正好符合了傅兰雅的期待。The New Age Novel Contest initiated by John Fryer in 1895 is one of the most influential incidents in Modern Chinese literary history. Entries for the contest including 162 novels are now rediscovered after one hundred years' lost. Nonetheless, the life of contestants almost unknown. The article consists of three parts that focus on one of contestant Jiang Guien, his entry and another novel Guiyuan(The Ghosts' Regret). The first part is the textual research of Jiang's life, and the second relates to his entry Shixin Xiaoshuo(The New Age Novel), while the third scrutinizes his novel Guiyuan. Undoubtedly,both Jiang's entry and his future development fully met Fryer's requirement in the sense of writing with Christian tone, and of cultivating Christian writer and successor for the next generation.
