A New Interpretation of “Poetry is the Expression of Earnest Thought”

摘　　要：《尚书》有载:"诗言志,歌咏言,声依永,律和声。八音克谐,无相夺伦,神人以和。""歌咏言"的"言"意为排箫,"声依永"的"声"意为排箫之音,"律和声"的"律"是定音的律管,其中的"声"是"八音乐器","律管"在协调八音的音高中发挥调音的作用。因此,"律和声"是指用"律管"给八音乐器调整音高。舜命夔典乐,使八音乐器的乐音"达到和谐""不乱次序"与"人神相和"这段话与祭祀有关,其教学行为正是"礼乐"教育工作的体现。Shangshu says： ＂poetry is the expression of earnest thought,singing is the prolonged utterance of that expression,the notes accompany that utterance,and they are harmonized themselves by the rules of intonation,（ In this way） the eight different kinds of musical instruments can be adjusted,so that one shall not take from or interfere with another,and spirits and men are brought into harmony. ＂in this passage,＂that expression＂is the panpipes,＂the notes＂means the sounds of the panpipes,＂the rules＂means standard tubes,＂they＂means eight different kinds of musical instruments,these standard tubes are used to adjust the pitch of eight different kinds of musical instruments. Shun appointed Khwei to be Director of Music that has something to do with sacrificial ceremonies which is a kind of teaching behavior that relates to ritual and music.
