“特朗普”还是“川普”——论英语人名地名翻译的原则

摘　　要：大陆和港台地区对英语人名地名的译法不一,一直以来困扰着两岸三地的民众,也对两岸三地的交流造成了一定的影响。例如,对美国现任总统Donald Trump的名字,大陆译为"特朗普",而港台地区则译为"川普"。从Donald Trump的不同译名出发,探讨翻译实践中英语人名地名翻译的偏误,并基于这些偏误提出相应的翻译原则。以这些原则为指导,可使译文最大限度贴近原文,以利于文化交流。The same personal and place names are translated differently in China's Mainland,Hong Kong,and Taiwan,which results in difficulties in understanding and hampers exchanges for readers of these regions. For example,the present US president＇s name Donald Trump is translated into telangpu in China's Mainland,and chuanpu in both Hong Kong and Taiwan. Starting from different transliterated names of Donald Trump,the present thesis attempts to conduct an investigation of deviances in translation of personal and place names,and propose several principles for translation of personal and place names based on these deviances. With these principles,translators in China's Mainland,Hong Kong,and Taiwan could produce translations closest to the original terms,and this will facilitate cultural exchanges between the three regions.
