It argues that the technique of syntactical and semantic ambiguity enables the poet to simultaneously put forward three themes: "time," "soul," and "creation." In this poem these themes are structured as three facades of the intrinsic motif "the overcoming of artificial boundary." A close reading of Pasternak's early works explores new ways in which we integrate historical and semantic analyses, intervene in the polemics on metaphor and metonymy, and shed new light on Pasternak's relationship with Neo-Kantian philosophy .
