摘  要:欧内斯特·理查森认为,图书馆职业的双重性质要求馆员既要懂图书馆经营,又要了解图书内容与知识。他批评了图书馆学教育多图书馆经营、少图书馆科学的现状,倡导引入图书学的教学与研究。理查森的图书馆学教育思想是对杜威实用为主的技术教育模式和以图书馆经营管理为中心的知识体系的修正与补充,体现出面向学术职业人才培养的教育旨归,带有鲜明的西方古典图书馆学知识特征和人文主义色彩。Ernest C.Richardson thought that it was necessary for a librarian to know both library economy and library science because of library profession’s dual attributes.Richardson had criticized the situation that library economy had been paid more attention while library science was neglected by the then library schools,and advocated introducing book sciences in library education.Richardson’s thought on library education aiming at learned occupation,which was a supplement and amendment to the pragmatic technical education and the knowledge system of library science centered on library economy established by Melvil Dewey,showed characteristics of the knowledge system of western classic library science and humanistic features.
