东西部高校非英语专业大学生英语学习动机对比——基于因子分析的研究  

A Comparative Study on Non-English Majored Students' English Learning Motivations between Universities in East China and West China——Based on Factor Analysis

摘　　要：本研究采用问卷的方法,考察并对比了东西部两所高校非英语专业大学生英语学习的动机类型。受试为东部"双一流"A类大学大一本科生304人和西部民族院校大一本科生250人。问卷包括34个有关"为什么学习英语"的问题,根据Gardner(1985)的态度与动机测试表改编而成。文章使用SPSS统计软件对两校数据分别进行了因子分析,得出东部高校学生英语学习动机类型依次为:内在兴趣、对英语国家人的印象、语言学习愿望、个人发展、文化融合型、媒介工具和个人经历;西部高校为:内在兴趣、个人发展、社会语言环境、对英语国家人的印象、媒介工具、文化兴趣和融入型。通过比较两组样本提取的公因子中所含题项的异同,文章分析了两校学生英语学习动机类型的差异,相似动机维度上各自的特点,以及引起两校学生英语学习动机类型异同的原因。The present study investigated similarities and differences of non-English majors’English learning motivation between universities in East China and West China.The participants,who were 304 undergraduates from a top ranking university in East China and 250 undergraduates from a Minzu university in West China,were asked to finish a 34-items questionnaire adapted from Gardner(1985)’s Attitude/Motivation Test Battery.Factor analysis and common factors comparison were performed on the data,to explore motivation types in each university,respective characteristics on the dimension of similar motivations,and reasons causing such similarities and differences.Results showed that college students’English learning motivation types in East China were“intrinsic interest”,“impression of people from English speaking countries”,“language learning wishes”,“individual development”,“cultural integration”,“media instrument”and“personal experience”;while those in West China were“intrinsic interest”,“individual development”,“social language environment”,“impression of people from English speaking countries”,“media instrument”,“culture interest”and“integrative motivation”.Such similarities might be attributed to the limitation of items on the questionnaire and the same social educational environment;while the differences might be ascribed to the differences of students’English proficiency,regional and situational differences.
