摘　　要：本文以霍克思(David Hawkes, 1923—2009)《〈红楼梦〉英译笔记》为基础,通过对《〈红楼梦〉英译笔记》中原始资料的转录、梳理和研读,结合霍译本《红楼梦》,尝试从作者研究、文本研究、翻译过程、翻译手段四个方面,揭示霍克思在《红楼梦》英译过程中所付出的不为人知的努力与艰辛,并指出《〈红楼梦〉英译笔记》是霍译《红楼梦》批评研究的新依据。Based on the original material from David Hawkes's The Story of the Stone: A Translator s Notebook, this paper attempts to reveal Hawkes' little known efforts and hardships in the English translation of Hongloumeng from four aspects: study on the author, textual research, the translation process and the translation skills. Clearly the Notebook is a new basis for critical research on Hawkes'77zq Story of the Stone.
