Objective To understand the distribution of sleep duration among school-age children and adolescents in Yinchuan City, and to analyze the association between sleep duration and dyslipidemia. Methods The prevalence study design was used to select 1 662 children and adolescents aged 6-18 years from Yinchuan City as subjects, and all subjects completed physical examinations, questionnaires and laboratory tests. Results The number of people whose sleep duration < 6. 8 h increased with age in both male and female age groups, with statistically significant differences( boy:χ^2= 213. 019,girls:χ^2=269. 115,all P < 0. 001). Compared with those whose sleep duration was 7. 9-9. 0 h,the detection rate of dyslipidemia was higher when the sleep duration was < 6. 8 h,and the detection rate of dyslipidemia was 1. 5( 95% CI: 1. 0 2. 2) times of that of7. 9-9. 0 h,and the differences were statistically significant(χ^2= 4. 094,P < 0. 05). Children and adolescents who slept for less than 6. 8 h were 2. 31( 95% CI: 1. 19 4. 51) times more likely to develop dyslipidemia than those who slept for more than 9 h,with statistically significant differences(χ^2= 6. 078,P < 0. 05). After further adjustment of age, gender and BMI,the above phenomenon still exists. Children and adolescents who slept less than 6. 8 h had a 2. 00( 95% CI: 1. 02 3. 93) times higher risk of dyslipidemia than those who slept more than 9 h,and the difference was statistically significant(χ^2= 4. 052,P < 0. 05). Conclusion The lack of sleep duration in children and adolescents tends to increase with age,and the reduction of sleep duration is related to abnormal lipid metabolism.
