民国时期公共关系的布道者与践行者:梁士纯生平考述

摘　　要：梁士纯是中国近现代史上的著名学者和社会活动家,在20世纪三四十年代的学界、政界、新闻界及宗教界具有广泛影响力。但由于某些原因,在相当长的时期里,这样一位富有传奇色彩的历史人物并未受到学界的充分关注,更未得到应有的历史评价与地位。论文主要依据当时的内部档案、新闻报道,以及梁氏后人提供的原始手稿与文本,辅之以其家人的口述而完成。在考证梁士纯生平的基础上,重点探究其公共关系实践活动以及思想来源。研究发现:梁士纯既是早期中国公共关系的布道者,更是终生不渝的践行者。从1930年代初开始,梁士纯就将现代公共关系引入到中国的课堂,并加以专门研究,尝试为新闻教育拓展新的领域与方向。更为重要的是,他将公共关系的原理与方法自觉应用于国际宣传、国民外交与社会动员的实践中,在抗日战争、中美建交等多个历史关键时期发挥过积极作用。就其贡献而言,梁士纯可谓中国现代公共关系的先驱。As a prominent scholar and social activist,Hubert S. Liang was considered one of the most influential figures in academia,public service,as well as religious conscience from the 1930 s to 1940 s. However,such a legendary historical figure has been ignored by Chinese academia for a long time,in terms of his historical evaluation and his social status. This research was conducted by looking into confidential archives,press stories,especially manuscripts from Liang’s descendants,and also oral history materials from Liang’s family members. By investigating his biography,the focal point of this research concerns the theoretical origins of Liang ’s argument regarding public relations. We argue that Liang,as the best communicator of public relation theory,was also a great practitioner of this theory. He introduced theories concerning public relations into higher education,conducting research in this domain,and broadened the horizon of the education of journalism and communication. Moreover, Liang applied theories and methodologies of public relations in international communication, public diplomacy, and social movements. These activities had a great impact on the War against Japanese Agression, and the establishment of Sino-US diplomatic relation. Therefore,we argue that Liang can be defined as the founder of modern public relations in China.
