Philanthropy cause in western society generates a succession of patterns which include traditional charity, scientific philanthropy, strategic philanthropy, and venture philanthropy types, with different donation subjects, motivation demands, focused areas and operation actions. Each type has specific location in the two-dimensional spectrum due to different instrumental and expressive value appeal.Social donation to domestic university, as a special sector of modern philanthropy in China, with delayed starting, lacking base and rapid process of development, brings up a mixed philanthropy pattern which simultaneously contains charity desire type, grateful feedback type, brand share type, cooperative interaction type and official administrative type, both related to and different from philanthropy in western society.Superimposed philanthropy patterns bring about mixed donation willingness, compound accountability and compressive development dilemma in the limited temporal and spatial ranges.Keeping balance between instrumental and expressive value appeals and giving equivalent considerations to the legality and effectiveness of donation affairs will contribute to solutions of mixed problems and superimposed dilemmas.
