This paper is meant to read Toni Morrison's Jazz from the perspective of the writing of city space. It points out the black's daily-life in the city are confined in some region, along with which their psychological space are also dislocated. The reason of this phenomenon is because the black live far away from the protective domain of the south so that the city has access to estrange them physically and psychologically from the black cultures. On the part of Morrison, in order to gain living space, the black can reconstruct the city space by building up black communities. Through her writing of the black's living situations in city, Morrison reveals the alienated influence of the city;meanwhile she confirms the redemptive power of the black cultures.
