Objective To observe changes in bone mineral density(BMD),the body height and weight in young b oys and girls from 6~18years old in Beijing area. Methods 1008healthy young boys and girls und ergoing whole body scanning with dual energy X-ray bone densitometer were divided into grou ps according to sex and age. Results The body height,BMD and BMC of annual growth rate were the fastest in girls from 6~14and boys fr om 6~16years old(P<0.05~0.001),respectively.Thereafter,the body height,BMD and BMC of annual growth rate didn' t significantly increase in boys and girls(P>0.05).BMD of the total body was significan tly correlated with the height in girls under 12years(P<0.001,r=0.485~0.575)and in boys under 14years(P<0.01~0.001,r=0.402~0.814).After-wards,no marked correlation was fou nd between BMD and the height in vario us groups.Nevertheless, the body we ight was always markedly correlated with BMD in boys and girls(P<0.001,r=0.654~0.864).Conclusions The body height,BMD and BMC in young b oys and girls the important growth periods were in girls under 14years and in boys under 16years.Although both body height and weight might affect BMD,the latter had strong effect on B MD in teen-agers.
