A Critical Survey of the East China Union Summer School’s Library Method Course

摘　　要：广采中英文史料,考察历届华东基督教暑期大学的办学经过,尤其是第二、三届所开办的初级图书馆科。文章指出,海施女士率先在1924年第二届开设初级图书馆科,但情况不明。李小缘与黄星辉亦在1926年第三届开设初级图书馆科,共有八名学生。他们采取课堂教学与课外参观或实习相结合的模式,取得了较好的教学效果。On the basis of some newly-found Chinese and English historical materials,this paper makes a critical survey of the East China Union Summer School’s Library Method Course.It is found out that Miss Florence Catherine Hays first opened a Library Method Course in the second session of the East China Union Summer School,which was held in the St.John’s University,from July 5 to August 1,1924.Li Hsiao-yuen and Julius H.H.Huang continued to open a Library Method Course in the third session of the East China Union Summer School,which was held in the Soochow University,from July 7 to August 6,1926,with only eight students enrolled.A model combining classroom instruction with extra-curricular visit or practice was adopted and a fairly good result was achieved.
