霍桑的家园与共同体意识

摘　　要：自18世纪以来,随着西方工业化与城市化进程的加剧,农耕时代的家园与共同体模式受到不断的冲击与威胁,家园与共同体不仅成为全世界关注与思考的生存问题,而且也成为人文学科的一个热门话题。在现代世界里,家园与共同体对于个人的成长与幸福意味着什么?个人如何与家园与共同体保持健康互助的关系?这些成为19世纪以来西方哲学、社会文化批评、文学乃至文学批评共同关心和探索的问题。本文以霍桑的小说导言和他的罗曼司故事为例,追溯作家的家园与共同体意识,旨在找到上述问题的答案,也帮助我们思考在中国经济发展中所面临的近似问题。With the development of industrialization and urbanization,the mode of home and rural community life has been threatened and endangered since the 18^th century. The concern about home and community remains not only a survival consideration all over the world but also a popular subject discussed in the field of humanities. In the modern world,what does home and community mean to individual development and happiness? How can an individual maintain a healthy and mutual relationship with his home and community? These questions have been explored by the western philosophies and cultural criticism,by the western literature and even literary criticism since the 19^th century. This paper,through the study of Nathaniel Hawthorne’ s introduction to The Scarlet Letter and his romance stories,tends to trace Hawthorne’ s consciousness of home and community in order to find the answers to the questions raised above,thus help us to deal with the relevant problems in the process of China’ s similar development.
