摘　　要：By linking Protestant Bible translation to the development of Mandarin Chinese into Guoyu國語(national language)from the late Qing to modern times,George Kam Wah Mak's lucid and illuminating mono graph demonstrates how to rec on sider the question of Chin ese language reform from a global perspective in terms of the agents,intellectual resources,and multi-lingual literary texts.
