Objective To evaluate the methods and effects of case based learning(CBL)in continuing medical education in urology. Methods 60 general practitioners(GPs)learning in department of urology of People hospital,Peking university were randomly divided into the CBL group(case based group,n=30)and the control group(n=30).The overactive bladder(OAB)case database was established and the typical case was used for teaching.Case-based teaching combined with teaching rounds was administered in the CBL group, and the control group was teached with conventional methods including theory teaching, teaching rounds and observe the operation etc.And theory test as well as skill test was used for results evaluation. Results Theory test score of the CBL group’s was superioer to that of the control, the differences were significant(P<0.05).Also,skill test score of the experimental group’s was superioer to that of the control, the differences were significant. The GPs in CBL group considered that the case methods were able to stimulate their positivities and initiatives. Conclusion Case methods were useful for the students both to exert their subjective initiative and to improve their understanding to the disease. So,it is useful to elevate their test scores.
