摘　　要：威廉·福克纳的短篇小说《一枝给埃米莉的玫瑰》被奉为英文短篇小说的经典之作,原因在于倒叙的使用增加了故事情节的陌生性和原创性,哥特元素和悬念手法增强了小说的通俗性和感染力,作品中的未解之谜为读者提供了广阔的阐释空间,让作品焕发出无限的生命力。福克纳对人类灵魂的准确把握,以及在作品中传递的对人类的同情和爱,展露了他对传统、对社会的独特思考。William Faulkner’s A Rose for Emily is regarded as a classic of English short stories for the use of flashback which add de-familiarization and originality to the story,Gothic elements and suspense that enhance the popularity and appeal of the novel,various debatable mysteries that provide readers with a broader space for interpretation and endows the work with infinite vitality.Faulkner’s accurate presentation of the human soul and his sympathy and love for human beings conveyed in the novel implied his meditation on tradition and society.
