Objective To observe the effect of endogenous VEGF on the recovery of spinal cord injury in rats treated with TMP.Methods The rats were randomly divided into Sham group, NS group, TMP group and TMP + Avastin group. 8 weeks after operation, the expressions of VEGF, v WF and IL-8, the regeneration of nerve fibers in the injury area, and the motor function of hind limbs were observed. Results Avastin effectively suppressed VEGF expression and led to a limitation inangiogenesis and inflammatory response(P<0.05). The nerve fibers regeneration and BBB scores: TMP + Avastin group > TMP group > NS group(P<0.05). Conclusions Endogenous VEGF limits the effect of TMP on the recovery of spinal cord injury in rats. Avastin improves the effect of TMP on the recovery of spinal cord injury through reducing angiogenesis and inflammation.
