摘 要:在四个多世纪的中国典籍英译的历史过程中,西方译者对儒家经典的认知方式千差万别。其中,传教士译者从宗教观点出发,对儒家伦理进行了基督教化伦理认知隐喻。这种现象表明,重大思想文化典籍翻译方式总是服务于译者的翻译目的,不仅是传教,还有文化同化的目的。这种做法可以通过“儒教”与基督教的“共性”,在西方读者中宣扬基督教伦理的普遍性,同时也可以提高“儒教”在基督教徒读者中的可接受性。所以,儒家经典翻译中的宗教化伦理认知隐喻在某种程度上是中西文化交流的有力引擎。In the history of over four centuries of English translation of Confucian Classics cognitive styles assumed by western translators vary widely among them.The missionary translators did their translation from the religious point of view,i.e.in the way of Christianized cognitive metaphor,which indicates that a major cultural classic translation is always in the service of the translator’s purpose,not only for the religious mission,but for the purpose of cultural assimilation as well.It can,by way of the commonality of Confucianism and Christianity,communicate the universality of Christian ethics among western readers,and at the same time improve the acceptability of Confucianism in the Christian readers.And Christianized metaphorical ethical cognition in translating Confucian classics,to a certain extent,has been an effective engine that powers the Sino-western cultural communication.
