翟理斯的汉语注音特点及其相关问题——以《汉语无师自通》和《华英字典》为中心

摘　　要：翟理斯的汉语注音系统主要表现在《汉语无师自通》与《华英字典》两部汉学作品中,从《汉语无师自通》到《华英字典》体现了翟理斯注音系统自身的历时变化情况;而《华英字典》注音系统又是对威妥玛注音系统的改进。通过不同注音系统之间声、韵母的比较,揭示翟理斯注音系统的历时变化及其对威氏注音的改进情况,为当下的西方汉学及汉语语音研究提供一定借鉴。Giles’s Chinese Romanization System was mainly embodied in the two Chinese works,Chinese without a Teacher and A Chinese-English Dictionary,which reflect the diachronic changes of his system.Moreover,the dictionary’s system is an improvement on Wade’s system.Through a comparison of initials and finials between different Chinese Romanization Systems,this paper tries to reveal the changes of Giles’s system and his improvement on Wade’s system,and clarify the position of Giles’s system as the highest peak in western Chinese Romanization System,providing some references for the study of current Western Sinology and Chinese phonetics.
