Objective To explore the effect of narrative nursing on improving mental health of nurses at the forefront of fighting against COVID-19.Methods Forty-five nurses at the forefront of fighting against COVID-19 were selected and investigated by using the Symptom Checklist 90(SCL-90),then narrative nursing intervention was conducted by phone or WeChat twice a week for two weeks, and SCL-90 was reused for the investigation. The scores of SCL-90 of nurses before and after narrative nursing intervention were compared. Results Anxiety and fear were found in 70%to 80%of the nurses in the study. After the intervention, the total score of SCL-90 and the score of each symptom factor were significantly lower than those before the intervention(P<0.001).Conclusion Narrative nursing can effectively improve mental health of nurses at the forefront of fighting against COVID-19,and help them face the difficulties and challenges in frontline work actively, deal with the problems with a positive attitude, and improve their psychological adjustment and mental resilience.
