Objective:To investigate the 3 D position and orientation of the mandibular condyle in patients with idiopathic condylar resorption(ICR).Methods:26 patients with ICR and 26 volunteers without TMJ disorders were included. All subjects received CBCT examation of the TMJs,CT slices were used for 3 D reconstruction and measurments of the condyle with Mimics 17.0 software. Then the parameters of condyle were assessed and statistically analyzed. Results:Compared with the control group, the upper joint space, the axial angle and articular tubercle angle of the ICR group decreased(P<0.05),while the sagittal angle of the condyle increased(P<0.05).There was no significant difference between the left and right sides(P>0.05)of the control group and the bilateral ICR group(P>0.05).Conclusion:The condyle of the ICR patients rotates clockwise in the sagittal direction and axial direction, and the condyle moves upward.
