摘　　要：国内外学者对来华传教士的研究主要集中在19世纪,但对像马守真这样活跃在20世纪上半叶的传教士却鲜有研究。马守真于20世纪30年代编写的《汉英词典》虽然影响深远,但学界对它的研究相对较少。文章以这部词典的文本为基础,从辞书学角度出发论述和分析它在收词、择例、翻译等方面的特点和不足,同时也对其承前启后的作用做了剖析。When Chinese and foreign scholars conduct research on missionaries and their works,they mainly focus on those in the 19th century.Little research has been done on missionary dictionary-makers such as Robert Henry Mathews who were active in the first half of the 20th century.The Chinese-English Dictionary compiled by Mathews has been under-researched although it exerted a great influence upon Chinese-English lexicography.This paper attempts to make an in-depth analysis of this dictionary,with much focus put on the discussion of its strengths and weaknesses as regards its inclusion of entries,selection of illustrative examples,and translations.
